a nice easy seed to grow for a newbie, pref small plants with dense buds... we only have a small cupboard and hydro kit for approx 6 plants, but I don't want them growing too high, as I say, small in height, dense buds with a good yield and obviously the stronger the better. It's for our own consumption only and we much prefer Indica, although I'm sure I read somewhere these are harder to grow? If that's the case we'll start Sativa. Can anyone confirm this for me?

If any growers can point me in the right direction I'd be much obliged, I'll be over in 'dam in less than 2 weeks and was hoping to bring pack a pack of seeds and end this vicious circle of me eating beans on toast all month so I can afford to smoke to good stuff

Although i have no experience i have heard indicas are easier to grow than staivas, shorter flowering time etc. Northern Lights is supposed to be a good one to start with. Im sure other members will put up other ideas.

Ahhh, p'raps I've got the two confused... maybe it was Sativa that was harder to grow.

Ah fuck, I'm confused... HELP!!!

I'm also sure I read that about Northern Lights, but I figured getting some first hand reports from growers would be a great place to start.

Indicas are shorter and fatter as they tend to grow in year round climes, so they can grow continuously. Sativas are generally better suited for outdoors and grow much larger with longer grow times and they tend to grow seasonally.

NL is supposed to be easy to grow.

Or so I've heard.

You're welcome Neldo. The first book is really good at explaining the process, my only complaint is that it approaches it from a hydroponic view. Which is why I picked up the second book from Soma.

I've actually just started my own research. I'm a ways off, but hopefully we can compare notes. I'm looking forward to getting some White Russian clones to start with.

I've spoken to a few local growers and pretty much everybody is saying "no, no, no" to hydro. Too much fuss and complication involved BUT we already have a hydro kit so we're gonna give it a whirl and see what happens.

We would ideally like to be growing bio, but my friend had bought a hydro kit a while back and it would be silly not to use it.

We should be up and running in a few weeks, I'm gonna ask a few questions at seed shops in 'dam in a couple weeks and bring back some seeds for planting, hopefully by that time our electrician friend has been round to plug us into the mains so we don't have the power company passing our details on to the police regarding our ridiculous usage of electricity slap bang in the middle of summer

I am sick to the teeth of spending a fortune on grass, I see this as my only way out! Fingers crossed ....

Yes, my next trip will be more of a seed buyer's comparison. I've been taking notes as to what shops sell strains of a particular seed company. It's best to start with quality seeds.

Since your'e going hydro, that book should be all you need. Luckily, were I live we have a medical marijuana amendment, so there are legal growers around.

we are growing New Purple Power Outdoor right now.It is a very nice plant, but since you dont have that much of space in your house, you won`t be able to grow this great plant

Which type stays very small is the "Lowryder" or "lowryder 2", which only gets up to 60cm and carries around 8-10gr. of marihuana, which is not much.

Indoor you cant grow the big Sativas we all like, but you can grow the quality plants, like White Widow, Haze and so on.

I would recommend you to have a look on http://www.nirvana-shop.com/ where you can read everything about the plants and also order your seeds and read comments from users about the sorts!

Hey Neldo , hope all is going welll

i would recommend a full indica, as this will stay much shorter.. and your flowering times will be shorter.

I good indica that i could recommed would be Hashplant or Northern Lights i guess from Sensi Seeds. There Shiva Skunk is also very good and quite stable.

if u want to spend some mroe money on ur beans.. u can try out Dj Short - blue moonshine

maybe even BOG - sour bubble, for something a bit more exotic

chocolate chunk from th seeds is also a nice heavy indica.

shady - u mention that we cant grow sativas inside, but then mention u can grow the regs like white widow and haze.... haze and haze hybrids generally grow taller than most sativas or sativa mixes...and flowering times are either the same as most sativas or longer.... just for clarification..

i grow some great sativas in the same space i grow my indica's .. the only difference is there is less veg time for the sativas then the indicas.

i also must disagree with this comment.... indicas are from regions like afghanistan and such where they have similar weather conditions as canada.. they only have a few months of full sun.. this means that the plants must grow faster and finish faster.. this is why indicas have shorter flowering times and stay smaller.. they dont have as much time. They do not grow in year round climates.. sativas do..... sativas are the ones that can grow in year round climates like spain and africa and such. they are also closer to the equator and and sativas need this kind of lighting period. where there is more full sun hours than night time hours.

good strain recomendation tho geoffk.. the NL should work wonderfully.

in my experience .. soma seeds might not be a good place to start. as his seeds have had some germination problems and some of his strains are a little difficult to work with for a first timer... but again, if you are confident with ur growing skills, his beans are a good choice.

best of luck neldo... and hydro works great!! dont be discouraged.. try and use an organic fertilizer tho... something such as Pure Blend Pro.. Botanicare offers are great range of Organic Hydro Fertilizers... and also remember to flush extra because it will make ur buds taste much nicer and burn smoother.

it would be great to grow a sativa indoors, but you need lots of room.

eh its all good buddy.. i was just trying to help out a bit...

yeah the best way to grow sativas indoors is to grow from clone, you cut back on the stretch and even the flower time by quite a bit. If you grow sativas indoors, try and flower them at a smaller height.. so for instance my sour diesel IBL , i flower it from clone at 12 inches.. it finishes at just over 36 inches.... my hashplant i flower at 22 inches.. and it finishes at about 36 inches exactly. and it is much more bushy with much more undergrowth.

the veg time for the sd ibl is about 15 days... the veg time for the hashplant is about 30-35 days... sooo in the end it sorta takes the same amount of time. as the hashplant is done at about 50-56 days... and the sd ibl takes about 63-70...

sooo sd ibl - 15 veg + 70 flower = 85 days
hashplant - 30 veg + 50 flower = 85 days

kinda works out the same...

hope this helps!!!! and give er a go geoffk dont be intimidated by the size of the sativas.. some of them can be controlled.. but then there are others that grow like weeds!!!! he he
