sounds like they must have been doing some shady business, not a surprise. even if it was the abomination that was La Canna, part of my heart sinks when any coffeeshop closes. R.I.P.

It is sad that another c/shop has closed. But at least it was possibly one of the worst in town. IMO. Went there once , music was so loud i had to shout at my mate 2 foot away. Full of chavs as well and the weed was a minimum of 20euro spend. Robbing bastards... RIP.

A bad business can be sold which could give the opportunity to be a good place.

The only thing I am sad to loose is that bike, damn! Still, as others have stated, possibly the worst shop I visited.

Lets hope the owners lost it in a game of cards to the Chiefs at Grey Area

I think the good thing was the fact that it isn't any more to defraud people out of their money with a product that takes no attempt to be anything other than mediocre- I've seen some deals from here that people showed me on my first trip. Poor people who have been robbed of twenty euros for something that should be in the bin. Horrible atmosphere too! With its fucking stone faced bouncers and obnoxious staff. What impression must some people get of Amsterdam at first if they come here first?

So I am glad that people no longer have part of their amsterdam experienced soured by this place. Oh, and NO I wouldn't hang out at this place if it was in England- there is better weed on the streets and it was full of wankers. It is a shame that it can't be re-opened and the license renewed I think an already existing license at this point should be allowed to be renewed but STILL there are others places that have closed down which are much more worth mourning for i'm sure.

A tourist trap going out of business is justice and an example to others

Only coffeeshops in good graces of the Amsterdam city government can transfer their coffeeshop licenses to another owner.

I believe La Canna Coffeeshop is closed due to Amsterdam's city government crackdown on businesses that can't prove that their investment capital was legal money. This crackdown is concentrated in the Red Light District and from Central Station to the Dam area. Coffeeshops, bars, Red Light windows and other sex businesses are particularly being checked.

I don't believe that La Canna losing it's coffeeshop license is good news no matter how much many of us disliked their quality of cannabis and their service. Each of us can make up their own mind about going to what ever coffeeshop we want. But if the closures of coffeeshops continues at the rate I've seen living in Amsterdam for the last 10 years, in another 10 years there won't be many if any coffeeshops left in Amsterdam for us to choose from.

By the way, how many of you remember La Rocca Coffeeshop that was there before La Canna in the 80's and early 90's? La Rocca was even larger than La Canna. And how many of you saw the tram cars painted as an advertisement for La Canna about 8 years ago?

Yeah I do wish it could have been re-opened as a new coffeeshop- it is a great shame they aren't willing to do that unless their palms are suitably greased. They could just be tight arses about it- have really tight regulations and everything but not rule out the possibility of giving a new license.

Seriously though it is of course a tragic turn of events to see the coffeeshop numbers dwindling. If they push it too far though they will be shooting themselves in the foot.

yeah it goes like this, less coffeeshops mean more people have fewer places to go, this in turn may cause shops to have more than 500g in stock at any one time, and if they are busted then it creates less coffeeshops, and round and round we go...

The point is that La Canna was shit. And 95% of people who have been say the same. It sucked ass.
