...ESPN has the USA listed as 8-1 to win Cup ,same odds as the Netherlands
are we that good ? ... (me thinks they're just trying to ramp up interest in the Tourney ) also does anyone know what colors the Deutschers will wear this year ? Will it be the White/Black,they wore in EK04, or I've seen a pic of Red/Black ...just trying to get my wardrobe sorted out (we'll be in Xanten the night of Germany/Equador.) Got plenty of Oranje lined up for the NL part of the trip ...Will be in Zutphen for NL-SCG (Plein 48 CS with their bigscreen)... Middelburg for NL-CIV -(CS62,if theres room for us ) and Haarlem for the biggy: NL-ARG -any recomendations for best atmosphere for that one ? ...thinking Sensimillia ,but haven't checked out the refurbished version of Indica )...PS My World Cup watching goes back to 1970 when I was a 5th year at a BFES school in Westfalia ...watched the ,was it a quarterfinal, between England and Germany in a Westfalian pub ,only Yank, with a bunch of my British mates from School in an otherwise German gaststatte ...yikes that one had the English up 2-0 with not much time remaining ...you know what happened ....we all got free biers when it was over .... Great Memory

Ok maybe i'm not as confident as a couple of weeks ago since Rooney broke his foot, but i'm still backing England all the way....even without him I still think we have the best all around team in the world - all we got to do is play like a team an "it's coming home!!"

Steven Gerrard for player of the tournament also

{edit} I tried to plan my trip to Amsterdam after the world cup this summer as although there are few things better than watching your team/country play football in a bar in Amsterdam....I don't have a good record when it comes to watching abroad. 2 England matched viewed in Amsterdam have resulted in us losing to Northern Ireland 1-0 last summer and also getting knocked out of the Euro 2004 on penalties to Portugal. At least there is plenty to take your mind off the match after though!!

I'm a big big big rugby fan more than anything else.. as a result, I just get pissed off whenever I see those footballers diving and then rolling around for 10 hours everytime some guy gets even close to them.. its just so gay! to the point that its become a tactic!

I'm not sure many can disagree with that.. but oh well.. a fifth of the world's population seems to love that.. and come on, I'll be faire, I love soccer when its well played.. I remember a few games like the old Manchester United vs Bayern Munichs.. they used to be good! the only problem in soccer is that out of 10 games, you'll get 1 thats worth watching..

anyway, I voted for France, I know they don't have a flyin' chance.. especially since "Zizou" is gone.. but what the hell.. I might aswell put my bid in for them.. thats probably the best thing france has left anyway!

I wouldn't be so confident in England in the world cup.

The team is full of players who reckon they are the man of the match so do not mix properly in games.

I chose Brazil because the players in that team appreciate the use of space and time e.g. Ronaldhino, Robinho etc etc.

Disclaimer: If england do win the world cup i will not eat my words.

I'm not sure who ESPN are but USA are currently trading at 100/1 on betfair for the World Cup. England are around 9/1 but realisticly should be about 20/1 IMHO

England always reach silly odds because we are a country of "mad for it" gamblers who always tend to throw our money behind our team.

Therefore bringing the price down.

I would reccomend Portugal for a decent outside bet (currently 26/1) I won't bore everyone with my reasons why but you heard it here first

Host nations more often than not thrive in tournaments such as the World Cup and European Championships. Portugal went all the way to the Euro 2004 final and South Korea surpised everyone with their run to the quarter finals (I think) of the 2002 World Cup.

Okay, the Koreans will super lucky to get through against Spain due to an abysmal decision by the linesman or referee when Ruben Baraja scored a perfectly good goal for Spain.

I honestly think Germany will be world champions once again.

Easy to understand people going for the skill and team work of Brazil but you can never count out the Germans and I think they will take full advantage of home advantage.

Germany will wear the traditional black and white shirt and shorts. They do have a red/black second kit this time around. This used to be green in years gone by but I suppose a new kit for the host nation will obviously make good sales in the lead up to the tournament.

Well that's it folks. All the European league seasons have now finished and all that remains is the UEFA Champions League Final between Arsenal and Barcelona at the Stade De France in Paris on Wednesday 17th April.

I've seen some sights in Dam Square during my visits there so a big screen for the World Cup matches doesn't seem out of the question at all

(as long as you don't disturb the people that stay in the big house that sits there)

You might end up with an ASBO in Amsterdam. I can imagine that most pubs and coffeeshops will be pretty packed while World Cup matches are on so it would make sense to have some sort of open air thing going on.

The Deutsche got new wardrobe.As you said they got new red/black shirts.
Brasil will win the WCC.
Would be nice to see a underdog winning the WCC ,but to be honest I think that the Brasilian Team will win it...
