may sound a daft question but can you leave plants flowering for too long?

Growing under lights a plant reaches a point where approx 2/3 of the pistils brown off at the same time - this is when you harvest it. If left longer, the main leaves, which are the plant's power-house start to die off, so new bud production die off too - hence there's no advantage to leaving the plant going.

In the wild, in the northern hemisphere, a plant will start to die off when the temperate drops. In this instance, if you don't harvest in time, you'll lose the lot.

So yes, you can let a plant flower too long. The skill is in letting it flower just the right amount of time.
