Tell me about it! I live here and honestly thought I'd never see the day where so many people are openly discussing the topic. That being said, I still doubt anything solid will come out of it. Even if California legalizes pot in 2010 it's not like the other states are just going to be all like, "Hey, California did it! Now WE have to be a cool state, too!" and follow suit. It'd take many years before the other states would even consider legalization. They'd want to see how people react to Cali's decision, how it affected the crime rates, etc. before they try it out.

Hey I will take any discussion about legalization in any state. And with our draconian drug laws that we have, any open discussion about legalization is progress to me. Go ahead California be the first!

I hope we can win this moral victory but I don't believe we have enough votes to win at least this time around. Our opponents are well funded and have better access to the media. This is difficult to overcome yet we continue to make progress.

Logic and reason can win over fear and the status quo. With legalization comes regulation. The state of California and it's people will have greater influence over the marijuana market. We can dominate production to distribution by controlling the price, product and availabilty. Recently, the Surpeme Court sided with the people regarding marijuana shops here in San Diego and the shops reopened. The reopening of the shops immediately cut into unauthorized vendors base enough that many vendors believe they will be pushed out of business. Sure it's bad for underground business but in the end I think this is best for everyone. Afterall, you can always go legit.
