im the proud owner of 2 german roors. i love them. they do hit better than your avg carbed bong or bong with rubber stopper. but better than your avg glass on glass piece? no way. do i regret buying them? not for a second. i won a 2 foot white label beaker and an orange label zumo much like usbl's but with ice pinches.
percs are NOT a gimmick. they do help filtration. if ever given the chance go to grey area and use one of their lux minis with the perc and u will see.
if your looking for cheap glass on glass go for weedstar or even better ehle. much cheaper than roor and good quality. they can both be bought off everyonedoesit.com

It all depends on where you look sometimes. I was going to mention that ceramic can be economical, strong and clean as glass since ceramic glaze is glass.
If it wouldn't have to be a pipe, google hawaiian celebration pipes, they are made from lavastone and have a bowl made of gold which doesn't foul the taste, and the gold heats very evenly, so it gives good full hits each time...and they are kickass
